Steps to Study Smarter!

1. Start with a positive attitude!



"To Succeed, we must first believe that we can." -Michael Korda



2. Get Organized.



a. Use your assignment notebook regularly.




b. Use a three-ring binder and folders.




c. Keep your locker and backpack neat.




d. Get organized for school before you go to bed the night before.



3. Manage your time well.



a. Don't waste class time and study halls.




b. Plan outside study/practice times.




c. Identify the things that might interrupt your plan and figure out how to manage them. Example: friends, phone calls, TV, family outings, etc.



4. Always try to do your best in the classroom.



a. Learn how to adapt to different teachers.




b. Be in school, on time, everyday.




c. Bring required materials to class.




d. Always do your homework.




e. Participate in class.




f. Be an active group member.




g. Ask for help when you need it.


    h. Take notes to help you pay attention.    
    i. Talk to the teacher when you have missed class.    
  5. Be a better reader with SQ3R.  
    Survey: Skim headings, subheadings, and key words    
    Question: What is this going to be about?    
    Read: read carefully and completely    
    Recite: recite and repeat the key points    
    Review: review the key points    
  6. Study Smart  
   
"Students learn 10% of what they read, 20% of what they hear, 30% of what they see, 50% of what they see and hear, 70% of what is discussed, 80% of what they experience personally, and 95% of what they teach to someone ese."
   
    a. Find a good place to study.    
    b. Make the most of your study time.    
    c. Listen to classical music.    
  7. Use test-taking strategies.  
    a. Be prepared.    
    b. On multiple choice questions, try to come up with the answer in your head before you look at the choices.    
    c. Mark questions that you want to return to.
