Welcome to Eagle Grove Elementary School.  I am excited to tell you a little bit about our elementary and encourage you to check out some of the great things that we have going on in our school.

This will be our seventh year in our new elementary building.  Although it has already been seven years, it still feels new.  Our classrooms are designed to help teachers collaborate and share ideas.  We have two computer labs that allow our students to work with technology.  We have SMART Boards in each classroom and plan to add iPads or Chrome books to each classroom as well.  Our building has three very impressive features that set us apart from other elementary schools.  The media center, exploratory room, and our gymnasium are what I believe makes our building one of the nicest facilities within the conference.  New playground equipment has been added the past few years as well.

This will be our 6th year of having the state's Voluntary Preschool Grant.  We offer a free 4 year-old preschool program that is fully verified through the Department of Ed.  Our preschool numbers have steadily been increasing the past few years and I am excited that we now have 90+% of all our kindergarten students have been through a quality preschool program.  This gives students an advantage that we hope will have lasting affects.

We have great things going on within the classrooms.  Over the past few years we have done a lot to strengthen our curriculum by adopting FOSS Science, Everyday Math, and Treasures Reading Series.  We are excited to see how this will affect our students’ scores.  Our professional development this past year was on Daily 5 and all classrooms will be using this framework with their reading program.   I have been pleased with what we have been doing for professional development the past few years and think that this will impact student learning.  All of our teachers are part of a Professional Learning Community and meet weekly to discuss student needs and plan the interventions that occur several times each week for every student.  We have also done a lot the past few years to improve our learning environment.  We are a PBIS School (Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports).  Our students are taught the expectations for behavior in all parts of the building.  These expectations teach students how to be Respectful, Responsible, and Safe.

Last spring we started the Watch DOGS (Dads of Great Students) program.  This program is designed to provide positive male role models for the students and to provide an extra set of eyes and ears to enhance the school security and reduce bullying.  We plan to kick off the Watch DOGS program again this fall and I would like to encourage any fathers, grandfathers, uncles, and other father-figures to volunteer for at least one day to be an official Watch DOGS and make a difference for our students.

I encourage you to check out our school and if you would like a tour, have some questions, or just want to visit about the many great things we have going on, please give me a call at 448-3126.  Please read through our entire Student/Parent Handbook and let me know if you have any questions.
