My first day as principal with kindergarten students on their first day.
(I'm the balding one in front.)

This is my fourth year as principal at Eagle Grove Elementary.  Before coming to Eagle Grove, I completed my undergraduate degree at Buena Vista University and Master’s Degree at Iowa State University.  Prior to being a principal I taught for 9 years in 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 6th grades. While I’m not married, or have any children of my own, I come from a large family.  We are a family of educators - my grandmother, 2 sisters, and a brother have been teachers.  In my free time I enjoy following the Iowa Hawkeyes, Cleveland Indians, playing golf, and fishing.

The entire school wore PBIS t-shirts on our first day of school 2015-2016.

In my first days working at Eagle Grove, it became apparent how important the school district is to the students, parents, and community.  The students come with a great desire to learn.  On a daily basis there are laughs, tears, and a desire to be the best we can be. Parent participation has been phenomenal, providing help and taking part in events such as Mama Cats, parent/teacher conferences, PALS night, and Festival Hispano.  Some of the ways the Eagle Grove community have been included hosting field trips, providing donations, and adding to the positive culture of the school.

Christmas 2015

The Eagle Grove Elementary staff has become a second family.  I exude pride when I share with others how hard the staff works and what we work to become.  The implementation of Positive Behavior and Instructional Supports (PBIS) provides us with structures to have common expectations for all in the building.  Teachers, paras, custodians, nurses, secretaries, cooks and bus drivers have all gone above what anyone could expected to make our building the best it can be for all.  Every single group has put students first by skipping scheduled breaks, working beyond contract hours, using their own money to provide needed supplies, and doing things to put students first.  They also know how to have fun and show appreciation with Shout Outs, sharing treats, and being able to laugh with each other.  I think our vision says it all:
